Langfang City is located in the east central part of HeBei province. It faces China’s capital BeiJing, in the north; it is northwest of Tianjin; adjacent to Cangzhou in the south and in the west, adjoins Baoding—an ancient city. Because of its location in the center of the Bohai Sea Rim Circle between the important cities of Beijing and Tianjin, Langfang is known as “the pearl on the corridor between Beijing and Tianjin.”

　　In April 1989, the State Council, China’s cabinet, positioned Langfang as a key city in the provincial region. Currently, Langfang exercises jurisdiction over two districts, Guangyang District and Anci District, two country-level cities including Sanhe and Bazhou and six counties including Xianghe , Yongqing, Gu An, Wen An, Dacheng and Dachang Islam Borough.

　　Langfang has a total area of 6,429 square kilometers; 70 square kilometers are an urban planning area of which 54 square kilometers has been planned. The city has a total population of 3,898,000, with 400,000 living in urban areas. If we set Langfang in the center of a circle with a 100km radius, it includes three expressways, two international airports, one largest cargo port and nearby 100 million consumers among Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province. The region is a flourishing area with intensive industry, dense population, close cities, convenient transportation, advanced trade, large market capacity, and strong buying power. Furthermore, Langfang, Yanjiao, Anping and Bazhou, the four provincial-level Economical & Technology Development Zones provide ideal investment locations and infinite business opportunities for investors at home or abroad. Because of this fact, Langfang was awarded the title of “one of twenty of best investment places”by the press medium.

　　Here there is a rich supply of natural resources. Ninety-eight percent of the area is a fertile plain suitable for growing various crops, and it also has a widespread water system. The abundant underground mineral resources including petroleum, natural gas, coal, terrestrial heat, dolomite, bauxite, etc, possess a high value for exploitation.

　　Here there is also solid strength in terms of science and technology. There are 13 national-level key institutions of scientific research, 21 high schools and 20 technical trade schools. More than 10 colleges and universities are located in Langfang’s famous Oriental University City. In addition, a large number of national level scientific research institutions and colleges in nearby Beijing and Tianjin offer great support for Langfang.

　　Since 1998, with the rapidly developing economy, Langfang leads Hebei province in meeting its economic targets. In 2004, the city’s local gross domestic product (GDP) registered 60.48 billion RMB Yuan; the per capita gross domestic product reached 15,566 RMB Yuan. Langfang aims at flourishing agriculture, strengthening state-owned enterprises, developing the private sector and accelerating the growth of industry in order to develop the unique district structure which sets the electronics, new materials, foodstuff process, pharmaceuticals and automobile fittings as its backbone industries.

　　Looking into the future, the Langfang Government will follow the principle of “Deng Xiaoping Theory” and guidelines of “Three Delegates” and will lead all citizens through the slogan “ Credit Langfang, Safety Langfang, efficiency Langfang.” The city Government also formulated the “Three Anchor Points,” namely to design a city that is beautiful, modern and ecologically sound. Langfang aims to be the first in Hebei province and to catch up with Dongguan and Kunshang outside the province and it will endorse the strategy of enriching the city further with technology & education, exhibition & tourism, zoology & environmental protection, and all-around development.
